The U.S. Army: Has restarted its effort to replace Bradley fighting vehicle

The US Army has now restarted its efforts to replace the Cold War era Bradley combat vehicle with the Option Manned Battle Vehicle (OMFV), which is a top priority in the service modernization strategy.

Program officials released a draft request for proposal (RFP) for the OMFV's Preliminary Digital Design phase, aimed at gathering additional industry feedback prior to the final RFP release for this phase later this year, according to a July 17 Army news release.

The impacts of the Pentagon's short-sighted decision to stop buying F-22 Raptor stealth fighters after the production of just 195 examples have long been visible in the high costs to operate and maintain the jets and historically low readiness rates across the relatively small fleet. All of this limits how much the Air Force can get out of what is arguably its most capable air-to-air aerial combat platform. While the idea of building more Raptors is off the table, the service is hoping that radical changes to how it trains its fighter pilots will free up more of these planes for combat missions or use as high-end "red air" aggressors.

The C-20 is the military version of the civilian Gulfstream III and IV aircraft. Entering U.S. military service in 1983 as the replacement for the C-140B, the C-20 serves as a primary lift aircraft for high-ranking U.S. military and civilian officials. The C-20G (Gulfstream III) is an all-weather, long-range, high speed aircraft powered by two Rolls-Royce Spey MK511-8 turbofan engines with thrust reversers.

The C-12 Variants for U.S Army

The UC-12B is the US Navy/Marine Corps version King Air A200C with a pair of 850 shp PT6A-41 turboprops, engines. Other features include a cargo door and high flotation landing gear. The US Navy ordered a total of 49, while the US Marines accepted delivery of 17 by May 1982, for base communications flights. The basic mission of the UC-12B aircraft is to provide on call 24 hour, 7 day a week transportation of passengers and / or light cargo. UC-12B's assigned to VRC-30 are used as training aircraft for new Fleet Replacement Pilots and Aircrew.
