Air Force’s B-1 Bomber Fleet Months Ahead of Repair Schedule

The U.S. Air Force's B-1B Lancer fleet is no longer as broken as it used to be, according to a top general.
The readiness of the long-range supersonic bomber fleet is improving, and its recovery and maintenance are well ahead of schedule, thanks to concentrated resources dedicated to bringing the workhorse airframe out of its previous abysmal state, Gen. Tim Ray, head of Air Force Global Strike Command, said Wednesday.

Army Takes First Step Toward Equipping Tactical, Combat Vehicles with El...

The U.S. Air Force has issued its official request for proposal to acquire a small fleet of turboprop aircraft as part of its light attack effort.

The service wants a limited number of Textron Aviation AT-6 Wolverine and Sierra Nevada Corporation/Embraer Defense & Security A-29 Super Tucano aircraft to increase "partner capacity, capability, and interoperability via training and experimentation," officials said in a news release Friday.
A contract award is expected before year's end for the A-29, and in early 2020 for the AT-6.

Marine Corps CH-53K King Stallion Helicopter On Track To Become Heaviest...

T

he CH-53K King Stallion helicopter being developed by Sikorsky for the U.S. Marine Corps has overcome early challenges and is meeting all key performance objectives. The program is on schedule to complete testing and commence operational deployments in 2023.

No U.S. military service has previously tried to develop a rotorcraft with the lift and handling features of the King Stallion. The Marine Corps specified a detailed series of performance requirements for the CH-53K, but the most critical was that it must be able to deliver a payload of 27,000 pounds over a distance of 110 nautical miles (127 statute miles) in 90-degree weather, and then return safely to its point of origin.
